about

When I was little, I always hated how every film would have a sad scene somewhere right after the middle part. I just wanted more of the bits where people were getting things together and building stuff. Action! Adventure! More of that montage mentality.
Now that I’m older, I realize you probably do need some valleys to make the peaks feel higher. Still, every time a sad scene starts, part of me thinks “Oh no... Here we go again…”
For some reason, I still wanted to try something like that in one of our albums - just to see if I could. So I decided to put a sad song right after the middle point, just like in a film. I used the same instruments as the last song but gave them more space so that they’d feel like they are falling apart. And then, in the next song, things could slowly build back together one loop at a time.
People often call our songs cinematic. I like that, but maybe they just think that because the songs don’t have words. I love the idea of soundtracking everyday normal life and making it feel special though - even if it’s a sad scene.
